The house which previously belonged to forestry officer Kutchevsky @kizhi
Neglinka embankment, 23.
Protection status: monument has been transferred to the quarters, under local protection.
The house of forestry officer Kutchevsky (Neglinka emb., 23.) exemplifies a city mansion of the late XIX c.
This is a wooden low-rise building with the attic storey addition; the house is cruciform in design, its central part is a large parallelepiped with the attic storey and balconies atop. Narrower one-storey rectangular sections link to the central portion from the North and South. There are two entrances on the eastern flank. The flanks are asymmetric because the attic storey and main entrance are shifted to the southern side.
This is a known fact that the house was build in 1827 for forest officer Kutchevsky. The original location was Kuybishev st., 23. The homestead included a woodshed, sauna, and a well. Fancy rooms and master’s study were within the section of the front facade and widened part of the house which had entrances on both of the flanks.
In 1900-s, capital repairs and the following remodeling were made: a room was attached to the main facade; the main entrance was moved from the flank to the main facade. In 1954, several separate apartments were arranged in the house, Russian stoves were disassembled, kitchen cookers were made, and two round stoves were set. In 1962, the house was repaired and partly rebuild: the main entrance from the street side was wiped, some of the doors blocked, new doorways were set, several stoves were remade, the door in the longitudinal inside log wall was moved.
In 1979-1983, the house was transferred to the historic quarters of Petrozavodsk. The porch on the western facade, stoves, and plaster cornices on the ceilings were not restored after the transportation; the planning concept was revised.
At the present time, museum researchers work in this house full time: museum section of cultural history, section of local folklore, section of stocktaking, systematizing and cataloging of museum collections, section of safekeeping museum collections, section of restoration of museum collections, section of studies and maintaining traditional crafts, Museum folklore theater.
